The “Heatwave” design started during a June heatwave. The metal of the car hoods was too hot to touch, and the air smelled like exhaust and melting rubber. We wanted a decal that looked exactly like the track felt that day.
We sketched the flames in a hot fashion. Standard vinyl didn’t work. Printing it on mirror chrome was the only way to capture the glare of the sun hitting a hot bumper. It is a piece of that summer, stamped in metal.
